Dr. Chika Unigwe is one of the few multi-lingual African authors who writes in English and Dutch languages. The winner of 2003 BBC Short Story Competition and a Commonwealth Short Story Competition award (2012) clinched the Africa’s most prestigious literary prize with his book On Black Sisters’ Street on 2012. Same year, she was rated one of the ‘five top African writers’ by Zukiswa Warner in The Guardian. In 2016, her Novel Night Dancers was in the final shortlist for the prize.

Dr. Unigwe set up Awele Creative Trust to support emerging and young writers in Nigeria. Born in Enugu in June 12, 1974, Unigwe graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and The Katholic University of Leuven, Netherlands where she obtained her PHD.

Chika is also a teacher, coach and political activist. She currently teaches English literature at the Georgia College and State University, Georgia, USA.
