The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts
At the heart of every civilisation lies a story, one that defines who we are, what we value, and how we see the world. The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, established by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), celebrates this enduring power of storytelling through the lens of documentary filmmaking.
Launched in October 2025, the Prize recognises and rewards young Nigerian filmmakers (aged 18–35) who use documentary film to explore our shared identity, culture, and collective experience. It joins The Nigeria Prize for Literature and The Nigeria Prize for Science as part of NLNG’s long-standing commitment to excellence, innovation, and national development.
As NLNG’s Managing Director, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, aptly noted:
“Film has the power to engage young people in shaping the future with our culture, our history, and our present. NLNG’s brand promise is to inspire a sustainable future and this means reflecting on the world around us and acting to create positive change.”
The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts embodies that vision providing a global platform for young Nigerians to tell authentic stories that inform, challenge, and inspire. It seeks to elevate the creative arts as a catalyst for cultural expression, social awareness, and national pride.
This inaugural edition focuses on Documentary Filmmaking, with the theme IDENTITY an invitation to explore who we are as individuals, communities, and a nation. Through this Prize, NLNG reaffirms its belief that storytelling is not just entertainment; it is empowerment a means to build nations, preserve culture, and shape legacies.
