The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts is administered by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and overseen by the Advisory Board for The Nigeria Prizes, chaired by Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, alongside Emeritus Professor Olu Obafemi and Professor Ahmed Yerima all distinguished figures in Nigeria’s literary and cultural space.
The Advisory Board is responsible for setting the direction and ensuring that the Prize upholds the same values of Excellence and Integrity that have defined the Nigeria Prizes for over two decades.
To support the Board, Mr. Joel Kachi Benson, an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and creative director, serves as the Technical Adviser. His pioneering works including In Bakassi, Daughters of Chibok, and Madu have earned global acclaim, inspiring a new generation of African storytellers.
The Prize will also be guided by a Panel of Judges composed of leading professionals in film, arts, and media. For the inaugural cycle, the panel includes:
• Dr. Sam Dede (Chairperson) – Veteran actor, director, and senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt.
• Adeola Aderonke – Award-winning film director, art historian, and producer of Awani, winner of the UNESCO Prize at the 2019 African Film Festival.
• George Ugwuja – Renowned filmmaker and producer with works commissioned by global institutions including the United Nations and Plan International.
This structure ensures fairness, transparency, and adherence to the highest global standards in documentary filmmaking.
The winner of the inaugural Prize will receive a cash award of $20,000, along with national recognition and opportunities for mentorship and visibility.
