He won the 2022 Sillerman Prize for African Poetry for his book Origins of the Syma Species. He is also a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee and a recipient of the GAP Poetry Prize. With seven published poetry chapbooks, Tares has mentored more than a thousand young Nigerian poets.
